The glamour of the roaring twenties

The Roaring Twenties, also known as the “Crazy Years” or “Jazz Age,” was a period of extraordinary cultural, social, and economic effervescence that followed World War I. During this revolutionary decade, America and much of the Western world were swept by a wind of change and rebellion. The young generation rejected the constraints of traditions and embraced a lifestyle devoted to fun, fashion, wild jazz and frenetic ballads.

The Cotton Club: The epicenter of fun and elegance

At the center of this whirlwind of culture and luxury, the Cotton Club shone like a star. Located in Harlem, New York, the club was founded in 1920 by Jack Johnson, a well-known boxer, and later managed by Owney Madden. From the beginning, the Cotton Club became famous for its engaging jazz and the outstanding talent it hosted. Jazz legends such as Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, and Louis Armstrong regularly performed on its stage, captivating New York’s elite with their unparalleled artistry.
A stage of contradictions

Despite its reputation as a cultural and musical landmark, the Cotton Club was shrouded in contradictions. It did not admit black customers and presented African American artists only to entertain white clientele. This discriminatory aspect of the club reflected the injustice and racial tensions of the time, but in spite of this, the Cotton Club continued to be a source of inspiration and challenge for African American artists seeking to have their voices and talents heard in a segregated world.
From this embryonic shadow, the Cotton Club soon changed its connotation, becoming a hospitable home for every population. Americans, Europeans, African Americans and so on find in the Cotton Club their navel of the world, a place of great inspiration, contamination and mutual exchange.

Each product was carefully designed and crafted with attention to detail, reflecting the sophisticated and glamorous atmosphere of the club and the Roaring Twenties era. The 1920s, in fact, are placed in the timeline enshrining a new way of interpreting fashion.
